Saturn Cafe - Berkeley, CA
This place is an all vegetarian restaurant. They offer a wide selection of breakfast foods, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and known for their milkshakes (which I sadly have not tried). I found out about Saturn cafe by purchasing two groupons, since it was such a good deal ($10 for $20 worth of food).
My first visit here was with my boyfriend. When you walk in, the name of the restaurant of course has to fit in with the look and feel of the place. There are space outfits hanging on the wall and some paintings of Saturn and planets. One thing I enjoyed about their decor is their tables. Each table had like items inside of it with some kind of a theme. I can’t recall which table my boyfriend and I sat at, but I do remember a table with Hello Kitty and it said, “Hello, I am vegetarian!” (I wish I got a photo!) Then the second time I went here with my family, we were sat at a “I Love Lucy” table with some photos and memorabillas of the show. Okay, so on with the food…
My first visit, I had the Space Cowboy which was a “chicken” burger that I did not find as satisfying as I wished. The chicken was dry and had no taste. The fakin bacon was just your regular morning star brand, so nothing special there. My burger also came with a tomato soup that was lacking flavors and was a bit watered down, but I did enjoy their french fries! I sadly don’t have any photos from my first visit, so the one attached to this post is my second visit.
The second time, I came here with my two aunts and two cousins. We were starving after walking around the “fancy” area of Berkeley, so I told them about my groupon and even though they are all massive meat eaters, they were willing to try this place out! My second visit was definitely much better than my first. The photo above, is of the Jalapeno Burger and California Burger with fries. My aunt and I could not decide on which burger to get, so we decided to split the ones we chose. I am glad we did that because I was able to try these two delicious burgers!!!
If you like spicy, definitely go for the Jalapeno Burger! Their spicy chipotle sauce blends well with their house made veggie patty (yum!). I also enjoyed the spiciness of the beer battered jalapeno coins, which made my tongue burn (but i loved it)!
The California Burger had jack cheese and avocado, a typical burger but was also delicious and loved dipping it in their house made ranch dressing! A little more about their veggie patty… it is made with veggies, brown riceb and black beans. I have tried some patties where it is too soft and mushy.. but Saturn got the texture right! It is savory and you can taste the veggies that are put in the patty. A plus for me is when you can clearly see the types of vegetables that they use!
Whenever I go to a restaurant that makes their own veggie patties, I always love to try them out and compare them to other places. I do not know why I did not do that my first visit here… I think I got to excited with the fact that I could have a “chicken” burger with bacon… haha… but at least now I know the type of food I enjoy at Saturn. I really need to get on trying their milkshakes and their famous nachos… hopefully one day when I make a trip to Berkeley!
